Scream 2 is the 1997 sequel to the blockbuster Scream from the year before. Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson return as director and writer respectively.
The movie opens at the premiere of the movie Stab, which is based on a book written by Gale Weathers about the murders of the first movie. We are introduced to a young couple there to enjoy the show. Not long into the movie the young man excuses himself to go to the Men's room. While there he is stabbed by someone wearing the infamous Ghostface costume. The killer than puts on his jacket and returns to the theatre and takes the young man's seat next to her boyfriend. As the first murder in the movie unfolds the young woman finds blood on her boyfrend's coat and realizes that something is not right, but before she can do anything the killer stabs her. She gets up and attemots to flee, the killer persues her intot he aisle repeatedly stabbing her. Thinking it is a publicity stunt for the premiere no one intervenes, they even begin cheering the killer on. Finally the young woman makes it to the stage in front of the screen, but it is too late and she collapses and dies.
Both Sidney and Randy have done their best to move on and are attending the same college together. However evidence points to the fact that their ordeal my be starting all over again. These suspisions are confirmed when a girl is murdered at a soroity house down the street from where Sidney is attending a party. As the crowds flock to see what is going on Sidney is left alone in the other soroity house. As she is about to leave, the phone rings and when she answers it she hears the familar voice of the killer. Hanging up, she turns to find the front door locked and from out of a closet bursts the Ghostface killer. Sidney manages to escape once more, but not before her boyfriend is attacked as the killer flees the scene.
While at the police station, Gale and Dewey(Tatum's older brother from the first film) realize that the victims are not random this time and that their names closely resemble the names of victims from the first murders that took place in Woodsboro. For her protection it is decided that Sidney must be put in protected custody. That doesn't go according to plan when the killer attacks the detectives driving Sidney and a friend to safety. After the killer crashes the car, Sidney escapes the crash and makes her way back to campus. She finds herself in the theatre where she was rehearshing earlier. As she climbs onto the stage she is confronted by the killer and the final chase begins. Much like the first Scream, this chase scene is not as straightforward as it seems and even has an unexpected reveal of its own as to the killer's identity.
