The Toolbox Murders is a 1978 slasher film that producers claimed to be loosely based on a true story even though there is no direct evidence to prove that claim.
A lunatic runs amok in an apartment complex, which in true 70s style seems to only rent to attractive exhibitionist young women. As he stalks the women he attempts to kill all he can find with the contents of his trusty toolbox. In the midst of this bloody rampage, 15 year old Laurie Ballard is abducted. eventually the detective investigating the murders discovers a connection between them and the abduction.
